On the social impact of new and emerging technologies, she is the director of research consultancy Careful Industries. Previously, she was founding CEO of responsible technology think tank Doteveryone, where she led influential and pioneering research into how technology is changing society and developing practical tools for responsible innovation. Prior to that, she spent nearly twenty years working at the cutting edge of new technologies for companies such as the BBC, Microsoft, BT and Channel 4, and was a pioneer in the world of digital art.

She is an advisor, board member and trustee of a number of companies and charities and a member of Ofcom's Content Board. In 2019, she was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the New Year's Honours for services to digital society. She is currently writing a book on caring innovation.
